She is fabulous with her ochre blouse and smokey eyes!  She is wearing a pair of jade bangles and a pretty engagement ring. There are some reflections in the photos due to our lights and interior tin ceilings.  It is attributed to the amazing Charles Rubino b. 1896 in Italy and died 1973 in Tucson Arizona.  He was the former art director for Hearst Publications in New York .  He was one of the first to use an air brush and consequently illustrated over 1,000 magazine covers.  He is known for his portraits, nudes, pin ups and landscapes.  We have attributed this piece because we bought an estate with many of Rubino's signed works and we recognize his works. This may be signed under the matte,  but it is so nicely framed behind glass that we opted to leave it as is. It measures 26 1\/4\" High x  19 3\/4\" wide. \n\nCondition is good with some areas of paint loss and one dark area along the matte on the bottom left of the painting. This piece was originally painted on canvas. At some point the canvas was applied to a wooden board. It is an oval shape which we don't believe is the original shape. I believe that someone wanted to save this precious painting and therefore trimmed the ruined corners and applied it to this board. Somehow, this makes it even sweeter than if it were framed normally. It measures 35 inches long by 27 inches high and .5 inches deep. It is in good vintage condition but does have some flaws- please see the photos for the condition issues. In the Victorian times, the St. Bernard was seen as a protector of children. This began with Barry the dog. \n\nAccording to the Southern folk artist and antique website, Barry the dog was born the year 1800 in Switzerland. Named Barry der Menschenretter, he worked as a mountain rescue dog in Switzerland for the Great St Bernard Hospice. Although Barry would be called a St. Bernard dog today, he predates the modern St. Bernard, and was lighter built than the modern breed. He has been described as the most famous St. Bernard, as he was credited with saving more than 40 lives during his lifetime. Barry's most famous rescue was that of a young boy. He found the child asleep in a cavern of ice. After warming up the boy's body sufficiently by licking him, and persuaded the boy to climb on his back, and then carried the boy to safety back to the hospice. Her flowing auburn hair is feathery like a bird and the eye mask adds another nod to the idea of flight.  They are up in the clouds with biomorphic purple mountains enveloping them.  This painting is colorful and commanding and yet it evokes the feeling of freedom and lightness. \n\nIt measures 42.5\" long  x 32.5 High. \n\nCondition issues:\nyellowing from age which is more pronounced in the clouds.  This would definitely brighten up with a good cleaning. A scratch which starts at the center bottom and goes up as shown. general scuffs and soiling from age. \n\nKurtz began his education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 on a scholarship he received from the Park Ridge Art League.   In 1962, he joined the U.S. Navy and trained as a photographer.
