This is a Chinese Drum Stool / Chinoiserie Garden Seat done in Black Lacquer & Enameled Cloisonne.
This garden stool features a rich black lacquer finish with a hand-decorated floral and scrollwork design. The top is done in cloisonne which is an enamel work. It presents with blooming flowers and a beautiful butterfly steals the scene. Butterflies signify love, freedom, joy and longevity and are considered a positive omen in Chinese art. The background of this scene is the beautiful cloisonne turquoise blue which in Chinese is referred to as Jingtailan meaning Jingtai blue ware from the Ming dynasty's Jingtai emporer who popularized this color in the 15th century. This blue is still prevolent in today's Cloisonne work due to it's rich tone and overall appeal. The sides are adorned with scrolling floral designs A striking example of classic Chinoiserie style, perfect as a garden seat, accent stool, or decorative side table.
