Large and rare Victorian Arrow Brooch from Cut Steel and Mother of Pearl
This is a dramatic and large Victorian arrow brooch perfect for making a statement! This piece measures a whopping 5 1/4" long. It is comprised of cut steel and mother of pearl. The effect of these two materials together is wonderful with the steel adding a bit of modernity and the mother of pearl adding a softer antiquity to the piece. Masculine and feminine if you will. These are sometimes referred to as lover's arrows or cupid's arrows giving them a romantic quality. I have also read that they are given to someone as a gesture of friendship. This one has a c clasp and dates to c. 1890. The circle in the center of teh brooch is attached in one spot so it can move up and down slightly. This is purposeful and intended by the designer. The longer part of the arrow made from steel cut beads is slightly bendable and therefore if you are not happy with it's imperfect slight bend to the piece, I believe it can be carefully bent by the new owners.
