Vintage Art Deco Rudolf Hlousek Trinket Box Hermes
This is an Art Deco Czechoslovakian glass box by Rudolf Hlousek. It has a depiction of Hermes in raised relief work on the lid. The glass is thick and beveled on the edges of the lid as well as the corners. It is a smoked glass, giving off a dark grey color. Hermes wore many hats in the house of the Greek Gods. ( No pun intended). He was the Messenger of the Gods. Hermes wore winged sandals and a winged hat (petasos) that allowed him to travel between Olympus, earth, and the underworld instantly. He was also a Psychopomp which meant he was the only Olympian capable of traveling between the living and the dead, conducting souls to the underworld. He was also a trickster known for his cleverness and sometimes deceit. His winged sandals allowed him great speed to move between realms. He was the patron of travelers, merchants, thieves, athletes, orators, and shepherds. This trinket box would be a lovely gift for anyone Greek in your life, or an athlete, speaker, travelet, jewelry lover, and so on. It measures 3.5"l x 3.5"w x 2" high
